2022 Kerner, Lodi | $32
The Mokelumne Glen Vineyard in Lodi, located in close proximity to the cool river, is the only source of the rare Kerner grape in California. The Mokelumne River AVA has vineyard sites dating back as far as 1886, consisting mainly of gnarly head-trained Zinfandel vines. Here lies a vineyard with an array of rare Germanic varieties. The soils in this area are Tokay sandy loam- a deep, fertile yet porous soil structure, slightly alkaline, consisting of finely crushed granite accumulated over millions of years of run-off from the Sierra Nevada mountains. This helps maintain vibrant acidity in grapes cultivated in a Mediterranean setting.
The 2022 Kerner displays delicate aromas of beeswax, orange blossom and fresh cut lemons, with a faint whiff of petrol. The palate is crisp, medium-bodied and complemented by impressive length and finish. Flavors of tart nectarine, yellow plum and grapefruit are layered with notes of white peach and honeysuckle. Vibrant acidity and subtle flavors allow this versatile wine to be enjoyed with a myriad of foods. This is a beautiful example of a white wine with elegance, nuance and freshness.
2021 PINOT NOIR, SANTA CRUZ MtNS | $55
The Coast Grade vineyard sits at 1300 ft elevation on a southwest facing slope, three miles east of the Pacific Ocean off Hwy 1. Sandy loam soils with limestone underneath contribute to the depth and beautiful minerality of the Pinot Noir fruit that grows there.
The 2021 Coast Grade Vineyard Pinot Noir is a beautiful representation of the Santa Cruz Mountains, a well-balanced wine with great acid, elegance, structure and minerality. The wine opens with strawberry, rhubarb, rose petal and a touch of earth on the nose, inviting the first sip. On the palate, red fruit and cranberry dominate with notes of cherry cola and a long, fresh finish.
NEW! 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon, Coombsville | $85
The 2021 growing season began with a dry winter, marking the second year of drought conditions in Napa Valley. The spring and summer saw very little rain but also balanced temperatures with minimal heat spikes. The vintage will be remembered as one of exceptional quality with lower yields and concentrated fruit. For Coombsville, a cooler AVA than most of Napa, the fruit quality was outstanding.
The nose has enticing aromas of fresh picked blackberries, with notes of sweet leather, sage and baking spice. On the palate there are flavors of black cherry, dark chocolate, and hints of mocha. The wine leaves a lasting impression on the palate with supple tannins, bramble black fruits, and has lift and length from the bright acidity. A classic example of an exquisite Coombsville Cabernet Sauvignon.
